The asset management giant is aiming to entice investors with as little as £10,000 to invest.

Investec Wealth & Investment has launched a new online investment platform called Click & Invest, aimed at competing in the fast growing ‘robo advice’ market.

The firm, which is one of the larger wealth management firms and part of the wider Investec group, has more than £32.5bn of client funds under management.  Its new platform aims to differentiation from the majority of robo-platforms “by going beyond algorithms and offering an actively managed investment strategy”, selecting from over 300 actively managed funds.

Investors can gain access with just £10,000 as the firm makes a push for investors with smaller pots and who may not usually be able to access traditional wealth management services.

IW&I commissioned David Black, independent researcher and personal finance expert to undertake an analysis of the ‘robo advice’ market. He says: “Having analysed twenty of the robo-platforms’ websites it is apparent that Investec’s Click & Invest is one of the market leaders in terms of its risk profiling methodology. Its fund selections are primarily active – rather than passive – and its annual charges are very competitive in this sector.”

Individuals are not charged for setting up and creating a portfolio, commission, transferring in, withdrawing money or closing an account. Fees for Click & Invest are 0.65 per cent on the first £100,000 invested, 0.50 per cent on the, £10,000 invested and 0.35 per cent on any amounts invested over £250,000.

On-boarding is channelled through an automated online application process that designed in conjunction with Investec’s Investment Management team and Morningstar. Investors are allocated one of five different risk-based investment strategies: Defensive, Cautious, Measured, Adventurous and Aggressive, based on goals and risk tolerance.

Click & Invest is headed up CEO Jane Warren, she said: “Investec Click & Invest is uniquely placed as an, online investment service, which is based on the same principles and expertise offered by Investec Wealth & Investment. The service is simple, intuitive and transparent, offering clients the convenience and ease of an online service, with the knowledge that their money is being actively managed by our team of experts, not algorithms.”

Competitive charges? Really? Over 100bps more expensive than Vanguard, and more than all discretionary robos.
