World’s Largest Crowdfunding Platform Hits a Billion

The world’s biggest rewards-based crowdfunding platform – Kickstarter – has now supplied $1 billion in funding for startup projects.

The landmark figure is almost as large as the size of the entirety of the alternative finance sector in the UK. Even more shockingly, roughly half of the $1 billion has been raised in the last 12 months. To dig a little deep into this milestone; 224 countries have seen investors make use of the platform. US backers have provided $663 in funding, UK backers have contributed $54 million. Almost 16,000 people have individually supported more than 50 projects. As was often mentioned at the AltFi Summit yesterday, originating lenders is the real challenge – not retaining them.
