With 97 Israeli-founded tech unicorns, Israel is clearly becoming a hot spot for talent and tech expertise.

Checkout.com is taking full advantage of the country’s tech expertise, as the new hub in Tel Aviv joins offices in New York, London, Spain, Ireland and more.

The cloud-based payments service provider said it is looking to strengthen its commitment to the region with its research and development hub, which will be led by a number of company leaders, including chief product officer Meron Colbeci.

“The talent in the Israeli market represents some of the brightest minds in technology and will allow us at Checkout.com to continue attracting world-class developers and engineers to our business,” Colbeci said.

“Our mission, to enable businesses and their communities to thrive in the digital economy, has never been more in focus.”

Checkout.com said it is looking to hire new engineers and product staff “in the double digits” from Israel’s vast talent pool.

The new office will be the hub for the company’s anti-fraud product research and development, which will be led by VP of product and Israel general manager Ido Lustig.

It will be the hub for the development of several project lines, including a new fraud solution ‘Fraud Detection Pro’.

“As eCommerce spending is projected to reach $5.5 trillion by the end of 2022, we’ve seen a sharp increase in online Fraud,” Lustig said.

“Our Israeli operations will serve as a hub for the continued research and development into pioneering new applications of technology to serve our merchants with a robust toolkit to fight online fraud.”

The expansion to Israel is the latest in a series of big moves for Checkout.com, which just launched a major partnership with Sainsbury’s in the UK to overhaul its payments operations.
