October - A Month of Consolidation. Roundup of UK origination volumes.

The UK Liberum AltFi Volume Index recorded its second highest origination volume ever in the month of October with £258.6m of financing provided by the platforms within the index. This falls £16.2m short of September’s record and continues the pattern that has been apparent since March 2015 where every other month has been a new record origination month. October, therefore was a month of consolidation of gains, we wait to see if November's origination sets a new high, thereby continuing this trend.

We saw the usual platforms taking the top spots: Zopa,RateSetter and Funding Circle. The last time a different platform appeared in the top three was February 2015.

Zopa posted the most origination volume for October with £55.6m. In second place was RateSetter with £51.2m, a new record for the platform and the first time that it has breached the £50m mark in a month. Funding Circle reported £46m of origination, putting them in third spot in the UK industry with only their third best month of all time.

Monthly UK Origination Volume

In contrast to other months, where usually many platforms set new volume records, there were only two this month. RateSetter and MarketInvoice. MarketInvoice posted a massive month with £40.3m of invoices traded, this betters their previous high by £13.8m, or just under 50%. Could it indicate that the recent changes in the platform’s product offering (such as its new contract finance product) are beginning to kick in?
