Our congratulations to all the winners.
While gender diversity in the fintech sector remains a challenge, there are thousands of women doing incredible work.
Today Innovate Finance, the industry body for UK fintech, published its 2018 Women in Fintech Powerlist shining a light on 150 exceptional women of the industry.
The listmakers included leaders like Monzo’s chief technology officer Meri Williams, Akoni’s cofounder Felicia Meyerowitz Singh, OakNorth’s director of growth and communications Valentina Kristensen, and Starling Bank’s CEO and founder Anne Boden.
“These fantastic women are making a major impact on the FinTech talent pipeline. This is despite continued under-representation in terms of funding female-led firms,” said Charlotte Crosswell, CEO of Innovate Finance.
According to Innovate Finance women still represent just under a third of total stuff in the UK’s fintech sector, although this continues to improve.
A handful of winners were selected to be part of the “Stand Out 35”, a distinction awarded by a panel of judges including Laura Citron, CEO of London & Partners, and Ben Brabyn, head of Level 39.
These included TransferWise’s head of government relations Flora Coleman, 11:FS’s head of talent Sophie Theen and WorldRemit cofounder Catherine Wines.
The full list can be found here.
Highlighting and championing these fantastic leading lights of the fintech industry sets an example, not only for us today, but also for the next generation of girls who might hear their stories and decide to pursue a STEM career.
Our congratulations to all the winners.
