Revolut is looking to recruit 1,000 staff this year and is also on the hunt for a dedicated UK CEO.

Revolut CEO Nikolay Storonsky told Bloomberg TV yesterday: "I think by year-end we hire another 1,000 people."

Revolut currently employs more than 2,000 people and Storonsky said Revolut is looking to recruit staff in a number of areas.

"We need everyone", he told Bloomberg TV, saying Revolut is looking to bolster its compliance department, which currently employs more than 700 people, by another 200.

The drive to recruit more staff comes as Revolut looks to recruit a CEO for its UK business to strengthen its leadership team. It is the first time Revolut has looked to appoint a UK CEO.

The digital bank, which is headquartered in the UK, is also looking to recruit CEOs for Japan and Canada, two markets in which Revolut plans to launch in the coming months.

The move to appoint its first dedicated CEO for the UK, where it employs around 500 of its 2,000 staff, comes as Revolut yesterday revealed it closed a record $500m funding round.

The UK CEO will report directly into Storonsky, and will be tasked with driving growth in the UK.

According to the job description the UK CEO "will serve as the local focal point in the UK and interact with regulators to drive growth and trust".

One of the key tasks facing Revolut’s UK CEO will be overseeing Revolut's efforts to gain a full UK banking licence.

Currently, Revolut has an EU banking licence granted by the European Central Bank.

The job was posted on Linkedin three days ago and according to LinkedIn over 200 people have already applied.

The CEO role also comes with the option of working from home once a week, free dinners with Deliveroo and "juice, tea, coffee and soft drinks on tap".

Salary expectations were not disclosed.

Revolut currently has more than 10m customers, mostly in Europe and the UK.

The UK is Revolut's biggest market in terms of customers, where it has around three million customers, according to Revolut.

Revolut has expanded into UK current accounts, business banking, cryptocurrency and stock trading.

Revolut, which competes with the likes of Starling Bank and Monzo for customers, recently beefed up its leadership team with the appointment of City grandee Martin Gilbert as its Non-Executive Chairman, who started in January this year.

Prior to his appointment, Gilbert had been working closely with Storonsky in an advisory capacity.
