Facial verification firm iProov has partnered with the NHS to verify users signing into the NHS app.

The technology was first deployed to Android apps but is now available on the iOS version of the app.

iProov’s verification technology will match a photo of a form of ID, such as driving licence, to a realtime snapshot of a user’s face which will then match a user to their correct medical record.

Once verified, users will be able to access essential services such as GP appointments, access to their medical records and ordering a repeat prescription.

Andrew Bud, founder and CEO of iProov, said: “The NHS login service is now a proven, secure, inclusive and effective way for citizens to verify and use their identity for health-related purposes.”

“This is particularly important in the current climate in which demand is unprecedented and the need for convenient and robust remote identity verification is crucial. We are delighted to be playing our part.”

More than 1m people have now registered on the NHS app, with a peak of over 60,000 new account verifications during the first week of April.

iProov’s technology is also currently used by the Home Office’s ‘EU Exit: ID Document Check’ app which enables European citizens to apply to the EU Settlement Scheme.
