Industry trade body UK Finance has appointed industry veteran David Postings as its new chief executive.

Postings, who will assume the role in January 2021, has over four decades of experience in the industry having held senior roles at Barclays, Lloyds Bank, Moneycorp and Bibby Financial services, as well as having served as non-executive director for UK Finance since 2018.

Incoming CEO David Postings said: "I am pleased to be taking on this role at UK Finance at such an important time for the industry.”

“The sector’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic has shown the vital role that finance must play in supporting consumers and businesses through this difficult economic situation.”

The decision to appoint Postings received unanimous support from the Board of UK Finance.

Bob Wigley, executive chair of UK Finance, added: "I am delighted to announce David Postings appointment as UK Finance’s new Chief Executive.”

“He will bring wide and deep experience of our sector and crucially at this time, a real understanding of the vital role our members play in supporting SMEs and consumers across the UK.”

The new boss takes over from former CEO Stephen Jones, who stepped down from the top job following accusations of sexism.

Jones made inappropriate remarks about embattled former Barclays employee Amanda Staveley in 2008, which have resurfaced as part of her trial against her former employer.
