Silicon Valley law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati (WSGR) has appointed a new partner to support its London office.

Joshua Kaplan, the former chief operations officer and general counsel at Checkout.com, has been brought on to further strengthen WSGR’s now 13-strong London team of attorneys.

WSGR represented Checkout.com during its June 2020 Series B where it reached a $5.5bn valuation with $150m raised, its 2019 Series A and other transactions.

“Josh’s addition to our London office further demonstrates Wilson Sonsini’s commitment to supporting UK and European technology companies and investors—particularly as they look to compete and win in America,” said Daniel Glazer, the founding partner of WSGR’s London office and head of its US expansion practice.

Glazer said the addition of Kaplan to the team would help more fintechs enter the US market by helping them navigate the complex local regulatory landscape.

“Josh’s in-house and industry expertise is attractive to the high-growth companies we represent, and the industries in which they do business.”

Earlier this year WSGR also supported Onfido on its $100m funding round led by US investment giant TPG Growth.

“Fintech is a particularly dynamic industry and I am looking forward to working with companies and investors across the global fintech ecosystem as they develop new financial technologies to deliver value to the real economy,” said Kaplan on his appointment.
