Revolut co-founder Nikolay Storonsky named UK fintech’s first billionaire

The Revolut co-founder topped the fintech rich list in 2020 after coming in third place in 2019.

CEO and co-founder of Revolut Nikolay Storonsky has been named the UK’s first fintech billionaire  

Storonsky, a native of Russia but now a British citizen was named in the Telegraph’s Tech Hot 100 ranking of fintech leaders. 

It had been previously estimated that Storonsky’s stake in digital banking service Revolut was around £363m, but according to the Telegraph, his net worth has skyrocketed to £1.06bn. 

Storonsky founded Revolut alongside current CTO Vlad Yatsenko in fintech incubator Level 39 back in 2015 and has since grown the fintech to have over 13 million customers worldwide. 

Yatsenko came in at tenth place on the list with a net wealth of around £188m. 

The co-founder's wealth is said to have grown substantially thanks to his large stake in the company, which is now valued at $5.5bn, making it one of the highest valued fintechs in Europe. 

The founders of Revolut’s keenest rivals also made an appearance on the list. 

Tom Blomfield founder and former CEO of Monzo came nineteenth with an approximated net wealth of around £78m and Starling Bank’s founder and CEO Anne Boden was seventy-fourth on the list with a net wealth of roughly £18.7m. 

Other fintech leaders that featured on the list included co-founders of TransferWise Kristo Käärmann and Taavet Hinrikus who came in at second and fifth place respectively with a combined wealth of nearly £1.3bn. 

Rishi Khosla CEO and founder of OakNorth came in fourth place and fellow co-founder Joel Perlman just scraped into the top ten, coming in at ninth on the list. 

Founder and CEO of PensionBee Romi Savova was the highest-ranking woman on the list, coming in at fifteenth with a net worth of around £108m. 

Other notable fintech leaders on the list include Charles Delingpole, founder of regtech ComplyAdvantage, at twenty-fifth, and co-founder of Moneybox Ben Stanway in thirty-sixth. 

Several fintech figures were also featured on the list for the first time. 

Paul Taylor from ThoughtMachine was thirteenth on the list with a net worth of £126m, while Shachar Bialick, founder of Curve, was in twenty-sixth with a net worth of £51.3m and founder of Freetrade Adam Dodds, came in at forty-second place on the list with a net worth of £29.3m. 

Ricky Lee founder and CEO of digital banking app sync. was also featured on the list for the first time, coming in sixty-ninth place with a net worth of nearly £20m.
