Seedrs will host Glint’s campaign here in the UK, while Republic will host the campaign on the other side of the pond.
Gold trading and investment app Glint is today launching the first-ever crowdfunding campaign on both sides of the pond.
Here in the UK crowdfunding platform, Seedrs will host the UK leg of the campaign and Republic will pick up the slack in the US.
The fintech is hoping to raise £2m across the two platforms and the minimum investment is just £17 for investors across 62 countries including the UK and across the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) and $10,000 for accredited investors in the US through Republic.
“This is a vital milestone in our journey to give everyone an equal opportunity to prosper by democratising and digitising gold,” Jason Cozens, founder and CEO of Glint, said.
“Simultaneously launching crowdfunding campaigns in both the US and the UK reflects gold’s unique position as the most viable alternative to global fiat currencies and its global reputation as a long-term store of value.”
Glint will use the money raised to help it expand its product offering and hire staff in key areas to help it realise its international expansion plans.
The fintech will also use the cash to help it grow its customer base, which has grown by more than 40 per cent in the last six months to nearly 79,000 users, as gold continues to go from strength to strength.
“Our strong client growth, over the last quarter especially, demonstrates the consumer appetite for a global alternative currency that can be used on an everyday basis, maintains its value and is independent of the banking system,” Cozens added.
To date, Glint has raised more than £20m and has processed more than £150m in transactions since its launch in 2016.
Late last year the fintech also became a principal member of Mastercard, meaning that the payment giant can issue Glint’s cards directly to its UK customers and also issue them on behalf of other institutions and corporations.
In September 2020, Glint also launched its first peer-to-peer payment service, Glint It!, with the new feature enabling users to send amounts of gold directly to each other all without leaving the Glint app.
