Klarna chooses Madrid for new tech hub

Klarna is launching a new tech hub in Madrid with plans to hire 500 new jobs, a large proportion of which will be focused on engineering.

Tech talent has long been in high demand and Klarna already has tech hubs in Stockholm, Milan, and Berlin. Klarna is looking for product developers, including engineers, product managers, designers and experts in data science and analytics for the new centre.

Nearly half (1,500) of Klarna’s c.4,000 employees globally are focused on engineering. Klarna launched its shopping and payment services in Spain in Summer 2020 and says it now works with over 160 retailers in the country.

Sebastian Siemiatkowski, CEO of Klarna said: “Traditional banks and card companies have been overcharging customers for an incredibly poor customer experience for far too long. Our aim is to allow consumers to bank, shop and pay on one app, in-store and online, with one trusted brand."
