In a year where international expansion plans have been halted across the board, Dutch cloud banking fintech Ohpen has bolstered its UK presence.

The fintech has appointed Jerry Mulle as its new UK managing director, doubling down on its UK presence.

Mulle brings with him over 30 years of experience in the financial sector, including having held senior roles at NatWest, cloud-native technology company IE Digital and financial services company Sopra Banking Software.

“Ohpen’s commitment to the UK market makes this an exciting opportunity. Now is absolutely the time to bring this innovative technology, built on decades of expertise, to UK providers and their customers in a way that works for them,” Mulle said of his appointment.

“In the mortgages space, UK customers are crying out for a less complex and more streamlined process, and with Ohpen’s STP ability, I genuinely believe that our proposition allows financial institutions to offer exactly this. Ohpen is positioned to be the number one driver of this in the UK and I look forward to being part of the growth journey.”

At Ohpen, Mulle will be responsible for bringing the fintech’s products to the UK’s financial institutions, from lenders and building societies to pension providers.

“It continues to be an extremely exciting time for Ohpen. We have been busy working on putting the 25 per cent increase in R&D, gained through the acquisition, into practice – with a clear focus on this market,” Matthijs Aler, CEO of Ohpen, added.

“Our technology continues to disrupt banking and liberate financial institutions of burdensome software. Jerry’s experience and deep knowledge of the market, teamed with his proven track record, is why I have no doubt that he will be critical to our success in the UK.”

Initially, Mulle will focus on the UK’s mortgage market, using Ohpen’s platform to help transform legacy systems as we move increasingly towards a digitally-focussed world.

Mulle’s appointment comes shortly after the fintech appointed Xandra Niehe as chief people and culture officer, with Ohpen looking to bolster its executive team further in the coming months.
