Mastercard and partners gearing up to plant 75,000 trees in the UK
The expedition is the first-ever circumnavigation attempt of mainland Britain with an electric paramotor and a world record attempt.
Our focus on climate change has shifted dramatically over the past few years, something that fintech caught onto a while ago and now big financial institutions are beginning to go green too.
Global payments provider Mastercard has announced that it is planning on planting 75,000 trees in support of the Round Britain Climate Challenge, the first-ever circumnavigation attempt of mainland Britain with an electric paramotor.
Mastercard will be teaming up with fintechs Ekko and Helpful, which recently teamed up with Mastercard to launch its own sustainable debit card, to donate the 75,000 trees.
“At Mastercard, we share the same common goal which includes our Priceless Planet Coalition commitments to restore 100 million trees by 2025,” Scott Abrahams, senior vice president of business development at Mastercard UK & Ireland said.
“Today is another step towards achieving that goal alongside our fintech and sporting partners, to create a greener, more sustainable planet.”
Equating to roughly 25 trees planted for every mile of the trip, Mastercard’s pledge is part of its ongoing drive to tackle climate change, encourage sustainability and become a positive force for the environment under its Priceless Planet Coalition.
“We want to inspire people to consider their shopping choices and along with our pledge to plant 75,000 trees with our partners at Priceless Planet Coalition, we hope to play a small part in creating a healthier planet,” Evan Michaels, CEO and co-founder of Helpful added.
Sacha Dench, Round Britain Challenge pilot, set off in June 2021 and will lead the 3,000-mile expedition and world record attempt and will meet with ambassadors of industry, local heroes, farmers and anyone interested in climate change along the way.
