Digital consumer lender Auxmoney has appointed a former Unilever and Barclays executive as its chief growth officer.

Matthias von der Heyde has taken on the newly-created role at the German lender.

He will be responsible for brand, customer lifecycle and marketing at Auxmoney.

Von der Heyde, a former consultant at the Boston Consulting Group, was most recently chief marketing and sales officer at Barclays Consumer Bank Europe.

He has also held senior positions at Unilever and held the role of managing director for insurance products at Check24, the German comparison platform.

He will join the management team, which is made up CEO Raffael Johnen, COO Arie Wilder and CFO Daniel Drummer.

“He [Von der Heyde] will help us to exploit the market opportunities for further strong growth," said Johnen.

Von der Heyde said: "Compared to other industries, the digitalisation of the credit industry is only just beginning and offers enormous potential for growth."

Last year Auxmoney placed a debut €250m securitisation, made up of 30,000 unsecured consumer loans, with one of the first social bond transactions in Europe.

It also secured a €250m funding deal with Citigroup and Chenavari Investment Managers.
