Flux co-founder Veronique Barbosa has been promoted to CEO and hit out at the paltry number of global female fintech CEOs, calling it “insane”.

‪In a LinkedIn post announcing her ‬promotion, Barbosa, promoted from chief operating officer, pointed to industry figures showing less than 5.6 per cent of fintech CEOs around the world are women.

“That’s insane,” the 32-year-old co-founder of the digital receipts startup said.

“I'm proud to nudge that statistic forward in the right direction and to have a strong team of diverse leaders around me within Flux helping to do the much-needed rebalancing around these stats."

Barbosa is replacing her fellow co-founder ‪Matty Cusden-Ross‪, who is taking on the role of president, an advisory role, and will also remain on the Flux board.‬

Barbosa, who is a mix of Brazilian, French and American, said ‬this would give him‪ “time to focus on his next venture in food tech”.

"I've known and worked with Matty for over seven years across two companies and he will be missed but I'm delighted the food tech space will benefit from his man‬,” she added.

Flux sits in between banks, payment providers and retailers, using its matching algorithm to associate individual products purchased with transactions in your mobile banking app.

Last year, it struck a deal with Barclays, which became the first UK high street bank to embrace digital receipts.

It was set up by three early Revolut employees Cusden-Ross, Barbosa and Tom Reay.

Barbosa was Revolut employee number four.

Barbosa was named in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe 2018 list when she was 28 years old. Before Revolut, she worked at Morgan Stanley.
