Having raised on the largest seed rounds in Germany last year, ‘buy now, pay later’ (BNPL) provider Mondu continues to grow with its latest senior hire, Miyu Lee.

After four and a half years at Swedish fintech giant Klarna, Lee is now the company’s chief legal officer and general counsel.

She joins the team of 60 and will oversee legal and compliance across multiple parts of the business, and lead the legal and compliance teams.

Lee brings a wealth of experience to the company, with degrees from Humboldt University, Harvard Law School and triple law qualifications in Germany, Austria and the US.

Previously legal director at Klarna and head of legal and compliance at Billpay, an extension of the Klarna group, her extensive international fintech and legal experience has been recognised twice by The Legal 500 GC Powerlist in Germany.

“I am super excited to help the business innovate B2B payments by building one of the most dynamic and modern legal and compliance teams to match Mondu‘s ambitious plans,” Lee said.

Mondu has already grown phenomenally over the past six months, and we’ll be scaling our legal and compliance teams as we continue to grow across 2022.”

Mondu was founded just six months ago by Philipp Povel, Malte Huffmann and Gil Danziger as a BNPL solution for online B2B checkouts.

It aims to give SMBs the same “cash flow management flexibility and freedom” with online business as they do in real life.

Last year the Berlin-based fintech raised one of the largest seed rounds in Germany, with $14 million from FinTech Collective and Cherry Ventures.

“We are delighted to have Miyu on our management team,” Povel said.

“I'm positive that her many years of experience in fast-growing, heavily regulated tech industries, and being an international Fintech expert, will immensely contribute to Mondu's growth.”
