Fintech jobs: Cardiff is the emerging tech city to know about now
Jobbio's Kirstie McDermott takes a look at three job openings in one of the UK's emerging tech cities.

Is the UK tech industry synonymous with London for you? Then you’re only seeing part of the wider picture. Sure, London is widely renowned as Europe's leading tech city with a host of big names such as Amazon and Google located in the city. London universities also make up 60% of the top 10 list of UK universities that the world’s biggest tech companies hire from.
But there are plenty more opportunities available across the UK in established and emerging tech hubs and cities. Take Cardiff, for example.
Wales’ first city has a lot going for it: The Welsh Government’s “Superfast” programme is all about next-generation broadband, plus the £1.28 billion Cardiff Capital Region City Deal aims to include a world-class metro system as well as measures to drive digital innovation across the region as its economy moves on from its former reliance on industrial production.
In 2021, there were 34,000 people employed by startups and scale-ups, and up to October of that year, 578 startups had raised a collective £27.9 million in venture capital funding too. Tech sector growth potential here is estimated at 76% with Cardiff making a name for itself as a Fintech cluster in particular. There are also other clusters including biotechnology and enterprise software.
As a place to live, Cardiff scores: it has a lower cost of living than many other cities in the UK, offers a good quality of life and Cardiff is well connected, having good road and rail links to both London and Bristol.
We’ve highlighted three jobs in the city to look at below - and there are plenty more career opportunities available on our Job Board too.
