Muis tells AltFi he plans to remain in the open banking sector.
After five years leading the business development at open banking provider Yolt and becoming a well-known face in the sector, Leon Muis today announced his departure.
The long-serving chief business officer revealed on LinkedIn that for him, the “Yolt rollercoaster has reached its final stop” and that he has “great pride and joy” for this time at the company.
“I have had the privilege of doing the first-ever Open Banking API call with my own Halifax account, subsequently leading Yolt to become a leading force in the Open Banking space,” Muis wrote, referring to Yolt’s milestone achievement in 2018.
“I have worked with the best and brightest at Yolt, we connected >800 banks APIs, seen >2.5bn API calls flow through the system and have witnessed the tremendous growth of the Open Banking ecosystem.”
Before Yolt, Muis spent over five years in strategy and marketing at Yolt’s parent company, ING, in Amsterdam, before joining the startup as it emerged from ING in 2017.
On the future of open banking, Muis said he remains “a firm believer that Open Banking is a big game-changer for financial services and it will make it more inclusive and fair for all!”
As for his next steps, Muis wrote that he would be spending some time with his family before looking for his next adventure.
“There is no concrete next role yet, but for sure will remain in the Open Banking / Fintech domain,” Muis told AltFi.
Yolt has been on a journey since it debuted in 2017. Initially launching as a consumer-facing personal finance app and connecting to your bank accounts through an early form of open banking, the business expanded to offer an open banking platform called Yolt Technology Services, an initiative led by Muis.
Under the leadership of CEO Nicolas Weng Kan since 2020, Yolt secured its own FCA and PSD2 licences, pivoting to exclusively focus on becoming a B2B technology provider, and shutting down its consumer app in 2021.
