An office move is also on the cards, as the current 10-person team plans to grow massively.

Just five months after launching its 10-person Austin, Texas office, Wise is now preparing to scale it up to over 100 staff.

The news comes from Wise’s head of US engineering, Balazs Barna, who told local tech site Built In ATX that:

“We want to find the right product-market fit for the US, so we need the best engineers in the US who understand the pain of ACH or the problems with the banking system.”

“We want people who are passionate about these problems and who want to solve it.”

That requirement for talent will likely see the company grow beyond the current co-working space it occupies in Austin.

Wise says it's on its way to building out a full stack operation in Austin, with all of the company’s functions under one roof, so more hires beyond this year are expected.

Austin could quickly become Wise’s second-largest US office, alongside its 40-person New York office and its largest office in Tampa, Florida with around 345 staff.

Wise has had a footprint in the US since opening its first office there back in 2015, but in recent years its funding rounds and then IPO increasingly prioritised expansion in the market.

In 2019 Wise launched its borderless debit account in the States, followed by its full portfolio of products including share trading.

A Wise spokesperson confirmed to AltFi the company’s growth plans for its Austin office.
