Celebrating its seventh anniversary today, fintech Revolut revealed that it has now reached 20m retail customers globally.

The milestone comes as Revolut also recently surpassed 5,000 employees, and says it intends to keep hiring.

“We are still a young business,” said CEO and co-founder Nikolay Storonsky marking the occasion. “But our growth over the last few years shows the increasing demand for our products all over the world.”

Indeed, since 2015 Revolut has launched in all 30 countries of the European Economic Area, as well as Australia, Singapore, Switzerland, Japan, the UK and the US.

The UK remains Revolut’s largest market, with 4.8m customers at an average age of 39-years-old, but Romania (2m customers), Ireland (1.9m), Poland (1.7m) and France (1.5m) are all following closely behind.

London is the most populous city for Revolut users globally, but is closely followed by Bucharest, the capital of Romania, with 420,000 users.

Revolut also revealed that its 20m customers are currently making over 250m transactions every month.

Meanwhile, the company is opening offices rapidly, with more locations in New York, Tokyo, Madrid, Barcelona and Mexico City in the last 12 months, and with plans for new offices in Mumbai and Bangalore later this year.

“As important as this milestone is, we are still at the start of our journey and intend to keep pushing the boundaries of financial innovation to build the world’s first global financial superapp,” added Storonsky.

“This is just the beginning…”
