Revolut has announced the release of 22 new cryptocurrencies available to customers in the UK and EEA, taking the number of tokens available well above 40.

This marks the fintech giant's third major addition of cryptocurrencies for sale on its platform since it decided to allow bitcoin purchases in 2017.

With a tenth of the population holding crypto and Britain ranking first for crypto and DeFi activity in Europe, offering the 22 new tokens in the UK seems to be a sound strategy.

New tokens include metaverse giants ApeCoin (APE) and Sandbox (SAND).

APE is the crypto airdropped in March by Bored Ape Yacht Club, the creators of the popular 'Bored Ape' NFT's and Sandbox is the third largest metaverse based on the Ethereum blockchain, has been around since 2013.

Two notable DeFi tokens have also been added: payment protocol Request (REQ) and blockchain development platform Ethereum Classic (ETC).

"We've given a big boost to our offering while empowering people to take more control of their finances and giving them safe access to new tools and services being built in crypto,"  said Emil Urmanshin, Crypto General Manager at Revolut.

Crypto has been at the heart of Revolut's quest to become the world's one-stop-shop banking service provider.

In July, the London-based firm unveiled its 'learn to earn' crypto courses, where customers were rewarded with Polkdadot (DOT) tokens upon course completion.

Last year, AltFi reported that Revolut had closed a job posting on LinkedIn for a Crypto Tech Lead, with the role requiring the hiree to build a Revolut crypto exchange.

A few months prior, Revolut undertook its second major token release, adding 11 additional cryptos including Cardano (ADA), Uniswap (UNI) and Filecoin (FIL) to its roster.
