Funding Circle has appointed a new chief technology officer, Greig McEwan, to lead its “innovation agenda” and multi-product platform expansion.

The listed fintech lender, which serves small business borrowers, has provided loans to tens of thousands of SMEs in the UK and the US this year.

McEwan, who brings more than twenty years of experience in digital organisations to the role, will help the company continue to innovate and drive growth.

“Technology and data is the crux of everything we do, and our next phase of growth is all about building scale and transforming the business into a multi-product platform to help more small businesses get the funding they need to win,” Funding Circle CEO Lisa Jacobs said.

“Having worked in fast-paced, customer-focused organisations, Greig brings a wealth of experience that will help us continue to innovate at pace and deliver a superior customer experience.”

McEwan takes over the role from Swati Lay, who spent more than five years with the company.

He was most recently CTO at sennder, a freight forwarding platform, and previously held the same role at Paddy Power Betfair, where he was responsible for its technology across both brands in more than 100 countries.

McEwan also spent six months as an interim technology strategy consultant at WorldRemit.

“I’m excited to develop Funding Circle’s technology, building on the excellent foundations that have already been laid and taking it to the next level,” McEwan said.

“Becoming a multi-product platform that serves a direct and embedded audience will drive meaningful business growth and help more small businesses not only borrow, but pay and spend as well.”
