Funding Circle has appointed Coconut co-founder Adam Goodall as its vice president of product.

Goodall joined the SME lender last month from Coconut, an SME account app that was acquired by GoSimpleTax in May, which he co-founded alongside CEO Sam O’Connor in 2016.

He was chief product officer at the UK-based fintech and departed about six months after Connor, who joined OakNorth Bank as general manager of transaction banking earlier this year.

At Funding Circle, Goodall will focus on enhancing the company’s multi-product platform to serve more customers' needs.

“We are really delighted to welcome Adam to the team at such an exciting time in Funding Circle's journey where small businesses can now not only borrow through the platform, but pay and spend as well,” Funding Circle managing director of FlexiPay Jerome Fernandez said.

“Adam brings a wealth of experience working with small businesses which is invaluable as we continue to solve more customers' pain points and help them get the funding they need to win.”

Having also co-founded ProConfirm (a fintech that provided account verification software for banks and accounting companies) in 2012, Goodall has spent more than 10 years as a co-founder, so the move to Funding Circle also marks a transition from founder to “traditional employee”, as Goodall put it on a LinkedIn post

He shared his experience of seeking “conventional employment”, the challenges he and other founders face on the journey from founder to employee and the polarising reaction it can have.

After Coconut was acquired earlier this year, Goodall shared a post on the company’s website saying he and O’Connor would be stepping back from operational involvement in the company, remaining small shareholders and “fully invested in helping steer the business forward to deliver on the vision for Coconut”.
