PayPal hires Barclays digital MD Simon Bladon as new UK CEO
Bladon joins after spending over 20 years at Barclays rising up the ranks
Payments giant PayPal has named the former managing director of customer and digital at Barclays as its new UK CEO.
Simon Bladon spent over 20 years at Barclays rising up the ranks after joining as head of legal in its EMEA team back in 2004.
During his time at Barclays the exec also led on the creation of Barclays Ventures and served as managing director and head of risk, governance and control of the investment arm.
Bladon’s hire comes just months after PayPal appointed Alex Chriss as its new global CEO in September as PayPal’s long-serving CEO and president Dan Schulman left the company.
“PayPal is an organisation with incredible heritage, reach and ambition to help millions of people and small businesses fulfil their dreams, ambitions and goals through accessing and thriving in the global financial economy,” Bladon wrote on LinkedIn announcing his move.
“I’m very much looking forward to meeting my new colleagues and together playing a part in realising PayPal’s mission in the UK.”
The move, which is subject to regulatory approval, also includes Bladon becoming VP of PayPal’s global entity management.
