US open banking provider Plaid has appointed a new head of Europe from Dutch payments giant Adyen in order to “spearhead growth in the region”.

Brian Dammeir was previously global head of unified commerce at Adyen, and before that president of North America for the payments firm.

“Plaid is uniquely situated to help businesses leverage open finance technology to build amazing products and reach new customers,” Dammeir wrote on LinkedIn.

“I look forward to working with our current and future customers to drive more access and better outcomes on behalf of consumers.”

Plaid’s chief operating officer Eric Sager published a detailed blog post both announcing Dammeir’s appointment and restating the fintech’s commitment to Europe.

“We see Europe as one of the most forward-thinking open finance markets, with regulators focused on supporting the innovation that has thrived in the region for the past decade thanks to PSD2 (Revised Payment Services Directive).”

Sager revealed that this year Plaid has seen its payments volume in the UK grow by 90 per cent due to partnerships with Checkout.com and through customers like Moneybox.

He also pointed to growth in open banking as a tool for lenders like YouLend and the success of Plaid as a bridge between fintechs looking to expand across the Atlantic, like Monzo and Public.

“Our growing team is steadfast in their commitment to the UK and Europe, and dedicated to helping our customers pursue the opportunities that exist for companies who deliver great outcomes for the consumers they serve.”
