A staunch supporter of women’s football, Starling Bank has signed on to sponsor Southampton FC women for another three years.
It became the principal partner for the club for the 2022-23 season after a huge summer for England at the Women’s Euros and for Starling as the official national banking partner.
Now the bank will continue as the front of shirt sponsor for the team.
“There has been so much progress in women’s football in the last year,” Starling brand and marketing director Rachel Kerrone said.
“We want to help the tide rise for women and girls everywhere, both in technology and in sport, and I can’t wait to see what we can do with Southampton FC Women in the next three years and beyond.”
The bank has created 500 jobs at its Southampton base and launched a ‘Coaches of Tomorrow’ programme to train up to 20 women from the area to be FA-accredited coaches.
Starling also donated £28,000 to emerging players and grassroots football clubs across the UK last August off the back of the Lionnesses’ winning performance.
“Starling’s continued support and belief in our vision has been instrumental in the team’s remarkable growth and success,” Southampton FC chief commercial officer Charlie Boss said.
“This renewed partnership is a testament to the unwavering commitment of both organisations to achieving greatness together.”
Over the 2022-23 season and with Starling on side, the team saw significant growth — average attendance for each match increased by 355 per cent compared to the previous season while season ticket sales increased by 180 per cent.
