Zopa Bank has appointed Kate Erb and Peter Donlon as chief operating officer (COO) and chief technology officer (CTO) respectively.

The digital bank is bolstering its leadership team, pending regulatory approval, as the company continues to grow and work towards an eventual initial public offering (IPO).

Former CTO of Moonpig, Donlon helped scale the online card retailer from 30 to 200 engineers and led its London Stock Exchange listing in 2021, which valued the company at £1.2bn.

Erb joins the bank as a qualified chartered accountant from KPMG with more than 20 years of experience in financial services, and most recently she led operations and infrastructure at Leeds Building Society.

She will lead operations, customer service, collections and recoveries at Zopa.

“I am excited to be joining Zopa’s leadership team as it prepares to serve five million customers in the coming years,” Erb said.

“I look forward to continuing the delivery of its brilliant customer experience through fair, intuitive, and transparent products that have established Zopa as the UK’s most customer-centric bank with one of the highest NPS scores”.

The two new hires add to Zopa’s recent addition to its board, where Pippa Lambert joined as a non-executive director to bolster the company’s IPO experience.

Lambert oversaw 80,000 employees at Deutsche Bank and will chair the bank’s remuneration committee.

Donlon’s addition to the C-suite also reflects the company readying itself for an IPO eventually, though CEO Jaidev Janardana has said the bank does not have plans for an immediate public offering which will depend on the markets.

“One of the things that attracted me to Zopa is its ability to deliver great outcomes through cutting-edge technology, markedly improving the financial well-being and resilience of its customers,” Donlon said.

“I am proud to be joining Zopa’s purpose driven team and look forward to scaling its digitally native offering, reaching even more customers as it continues to grow profitably.”
