After studying Economics at Aberystwyth University Jake's first job in economics was at the Bank of England. He was working in the Financial Stability division when the financial crisis started, the Monetary Policy Committee Unit when the BoE cut rates and started quantitative easing and then the Markets division when the Bank started its Funding for Lending scheme.

After two years working in the private sector, in January 2016 Jake joined the British Business Bank when it was a year old and had a little over 100 members of staff. He has been lead author on three of the last four Small Business Finance Markets reports and heads up the Bank’s work on alternative finance. Jake has written reports on topics ranging from angel investing, the benefits of diverse finance markets to the role of SMEs in achieving the UK net zero target.
